About Us

Hello DC Fitness peeps.
You can call me Fudge. Not because I like fudge (I don't really), but because it's a nickname a good friend gave me and I've always wanted to write under a pseudonym.
First, let me tell you a little about me - not because I think you should care about who I am, but because I think it is helpful to know about where I am coming from when I talk about my fitness experiences. I am in my mid-30s, work a desk job in D.C., and live in Fairfax County. I'm about 40 lbs. overweight and am looking to exercise to help me lose weight, to get in shape generally, and to help me rebuild strength and flexibility in an ankle I broke in late 2012. I've always been hesitant to join a gym or a studio because I don't want to pay monthly fees for services I don't use or get stuck in a long contract.
With Chesti's amazing talent at unearthing a deal, we have been able to attend yoga, pilates, zumba, and other classes at a variety of facilities in D.C. and Northern Virginia at a significant discount or, sometimes, for free. My goal is to share with you my experiences so that you can decide what might best work for you in terms of type of work out and location and share the deals and offers we find so that you can take advantage of what this area has to offer without the significant cost that often accompanies such an endeavor.
Shake that booty and Namaste,
Fudge

Call me Chesti. Not because I am, but because I wish I was. I also wish I was in perfect shape & rich &... I am a former fatty who lost more than half my body weight & I’m obsessed with having a killer body. I went from a 16 to a size 0-2 & have kept the weight off for 10+ years. But I’m lazy, picky, & cheap. Hopefully this blog will help you out a bit, because it’s been a pain to get into & stay in shape within my own OCD parameters. I’ve been on every diet, tried most forms of exercise, & yes, tried almost every quick fix (body wraps, saunas, etc). Time to get real. I’m in my early 30s & work a desk job. I live in Alexandria & work in Arlington. I had recent surgery & had to relearn how to walk & lift my arms. I didn’t start getting crazy about fitness for recovery, because it’s good for me or because I love to work out. Again, I’m lazy. But I’m also shallow about how MY OWN body looks. So I’ve been hitting the gyms/studios hard & feeling great. Occasionally I mess up on eating healthy (I will share eating/drinking tips), or my knees hurt, or I want to punch someone in a class (usually a Fitness Barbie doing a one-armed handstand). I’m a typical chick. My goal for this blog is to help you save time by skipping the places that are awful, praise the places that are great, & complain about things that annoy me (do NOT block my mirror space). Because getting fit can be very expensive, I also want to share the deals. I’m hesitant to point out all the free classes because I’m a bit selfish, but I will. Now that’s love. I’ll review the free classes for you & let you know which ones “aren’t worth free”. I also plan on reviewing fitness videos so when you have no money or metro isn’t working you can still get a workout in. Fudge & I are about as different as could be yet two peas in a very odd pod. She’s the nice one, I’m the snarky one. We are open to your comments & hope that you will be as honest as we are. And we will be honest...which is why we have pseudonyms.
